Chicago was founded on the land of the Potawatomi people, who continue to live in this area today. In this virtual talk, CHM trustee and Ohio State University professor John N. Low will discuss some of the history of the Potawatomi people and the factors that led to their forced removal from this land and its subsequent effects on the population. He will also discuss the value of Land Acknowledgements and why these statements should acknowledge this historical fact of removal and cultural erasure. Q&A will follow the talk.

This program is offered in a hybrid manner. Registration is required for all attendees:

  • Register to attend virtually on Zoom, which is free.
  • Register to attend in-person, which is free with general admission to the Museum.
